Birmgham, Jan. 16, 2011: The British motorsport industry has emerged from a challenging year with flying colours, and remains an outstanding example by which other high-tech sectors should be judged. This success was last night (Thursday 13 January) marked by the Motorsport Industry Association's (MIA) coveted Business Excellence Awards, during its prestigious annual dinner at the NEC, Birmingham. These covered seven important yet separate business categories.

The MIA Business of the Year Award topped an extraordinary year for Xtrac. Over the past 26 years, Xtrac, based in Thatcham, has become world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance gearboxes, differentials and driveline components, used throughout motorsport - in F1, IndyCar, Touring Cars, rallying, Rally Raid, Grand-Am and many other sportscar racing series. It has recently developed highly efficient transmissions for prototype electric and hybrid vehicles, and has been instrumental in the transfer of driveline technology to the defence and marine industries.

All companies in the motorsport industry are eligible for the MIA's sought-after awards. Nominations are made by MIA members - so it is the recognition of its peers that makes these accolades especially meaningful to the winners.

The sell-out MIA Awards Dinner was attended by an audience of 500 senior executives from the international motorsport business community. In addition to the sponsors listed below, the main event was supported by Autodesk, 2B Interface and Autosport International.

First presented in 1995, the MIA Business Excellence Awards were created to recognise excellence at all levels within the motorsport and high performance engineering industry.
