Monte Carlo, Jan. 3, 2011: The organisers behind the return of the Monte Carlo classic rally to Glasgow are offering the public a rare opportunity to get involved in the Centenary celebration.

Over 50 period cars will leave Glasgow's Blythswood Square on 27 January 2011 to travel over 2,000km to Monte Carlo.

However, it is not just the international competitors and crews who can play a part in the 100th anniversary of the world-famous event.

On Wednesday 26 January, a Grand Gala Dinner will take place, featuring the very best of Scottish cuisine and entertainment from award-winning speakers.

For the £35 ticket price, members of the public can sample the atmosphere and unique flavour of the Monte, by joining the distinguished guest list at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Stuart Turner, rally co-driver, author, motivational speaker and a man who knows what it takes to win the Monte.

Described as one of the funniest after dinner speakers in the UK, Turner was competition manager at the British Motor Corporation (BMC), when Minis were regularly winning the Monte Carlo Rally.

Critically acclaimed female impersonator and cabaret artiste Cheri Treiffel will then take the floor, with an act which has won rave reviews in London and Edinburgh.

The evening event - a celebration of the return of the rally to Glasgow for the first time in 38 years - will begin at 7pm.

A drinks reception will be followed by a Scottish-themed three-course meal.

Tickets are limited and those wishing to be part of the Centenary Monte celebration are urged to book now.

A spokesperson said: "This is one way for people to really get involved and to sample the special atmosphere and buzz of the rally on the eve of the cars leaving for Monte Carlo.

"It promises to be a memorable occasion, with great entertainment, quality food and terrific company."
