Las Vegas, November 29, 2010: As part of the association’s recognition of the extended family of performance karting, we have added Mr. Tom Godfrey as our first Director of Indoor Karting. Along with the previous appointment of Mitch Wright as the association’s new Director of Tracks, who has 44 years of facility and series management, Tom brings us an extensive background in the burgeoning indoor performance karting market ranging from facility design to being an important supplier of supplies and equipment to the karting community. As the owner of Finish Line Race Gear, Tom services indoor kart tracks around the country with everything from customized printed and dye sublimation apparel to the obligatory head sock for helmet hygiene.

Mr. Godfrey also brings more than 21 years of experience from the outdoor recreational track and amusement industry. His last ten years has been dedicated to the design, development and management of some of the most innovative indoor performance karting venues in the country. As part of Tom’s marketplace, he is an accomplished writer and his work can often be read in National Kart News. His web presence includes www.indoorkarttracks.com a portal of up to date indoor listings, which has just celebrated its 7th birthday. To help spread the news about the indoor market and karting in general, Tom also produces www.indoorkartreport.com an important news and information site. Finish Line also represents DeCuzzi Tires into much of the karting community and Tom works with the engineers to develop new compounds that add both performance and durability for the indoor venues.

With the association’s goal of bridging the divide between the various segments of performance karting, including such a recognized veteran from the indoor marketplace allows us to bring an educated voice to the board. Tom’s role will be to present the trends, concerns and opportunities that the indoor performance karting business has and to find ways to include their voice into the overall performance karting industry. While this aspect of the business has often been marginalized by its counterpart in the recreational and concession kart community as being a passing fad, the KIC sees the more than 100 US facilities as being a very important introduction into the world of performance karting and need to be embraced as an critical resource.

Tom’s appointment along with the market research that the association is doing regarding promoting new battery development for the indoor electric market hopefully will demonstrate our commitment to the indoor business community. The KIC will also be working to develop new indoor demographic data and important statistics. These director appointments allow the KIC to bring recognized “experts” to the table and give each business segment a voice. Their goals are to present areas of focus that often mirror challenges or opportunities within other market channels. Collectively, we hope to prioritize and address these with specific research, educational forums and published papers to help add light to the opportunity. Between now and next fall, we will be preparing important topics to cover in our annual conference and industry showcase. We look forward to his writings and research and hope the indoor community will take advantage of Tom’s knowledge and will be supportive in helping the KIC move forward.
