The key to restoring our economic health is the quick and absolute adoption of alternative energy technologies, fuels and vehicles. And the key to the successful assimilation of them into our daily life is having trained personnel to perform the required conversion and regular maintenance services.

AUTO CENTRAL - October 9, 2010: On Friday, October 15th, the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) is staging their biennial National AFV Day Odyssey event at select college and training centers across America.

This free event provides an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to discover how they can become involved in the burgeoning alternative fuel and energy industry: regardless whether they wish to become a qualified alternative-fuel mechanic or an alternative-fuel mogul.

Contrary to claims made by the individuals and groups opposed to energy independence that there are no existing training programs covering sophisticated gasoline-to-CNG (and propane) engine conversions and other necessary techniques, NAFTC has been offering a surprisingly diverse and comprehensive curricula for nearly 20 years.

Since its inception in 1992, the NAFTC has created tremendous impact by:

• Delivering over 775 courses and training over 7,750 technicians, fleet managers, students, decision-makers, and others nationwide • Conducting over 900 workshops and education/awareness events with over 200,000 attendees • Strengthening alliances with regional fuel providers and local industries • Enhancing liaisons with automobile manufacturers • Enhancing alliances with aftermarket retailers within an NTC’s region • Heightening awareness for millions about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles by conducting National AFV Day Odyssey* • Conducting international training

The overall training program is based upon the programs developed at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. There are currently 44 training centers in 26 states, primarily at community and junior colleges.

“What really makes the NAFTC program so terrific is that it’s available through relatively inexpensive local colleges,” said Marc Rauch, Executive Vice President of The Auto Channel. “There are some excellent automotive programs also available at commercial technical colleges, but they tend to be very expensive. To me, the last thing that a person needs in starting a new career is to be saddled with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans. The course of study offered by such campuses as Yuba College in Northern California allows the student to maximize his or her education, while minimizing the cost of doing it.”

“I happened to visit the previous National AFV Day Odyssey event at Yuba College in 2008, and I came away feeling very upbeat about our potential for training people to take care of our future transportation needs,” added Rauch. “The instructors I spoke with are knowledgeable about all aspects and issues related to the care and maintenance of alt-fuel vehicles, and they’re enthusiastic about the financial potential for their students.”
