RACING COMPLETE AT CECIL COUNTY DRAGWAY
RISING SUN, Md. (August 30, 2010) - Racing concluded this weekend for the rain delayed NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Cecil County Dragway with some familiar names taking home the wins.
Former Lucas Oil National Champions Iggie Boicesco and Dan Northrop won in the Super Gas and Super Comp categories respectively with Boicesco, Warminster, Pa., winning over John Stover in his '02 Corvette. Northrop of Doylestown, Pa., won when Jack Donnelly, Atco, N.J., broke out.
Al Ackerman, Saddle Brook, N.J., out ran Sal Biondo for the Comp Eliminator win while Doug Linke fell to Lincoln Morehead, Marlboro, N.Y., and his '90 Camaro in the Super Stock class. Both Ackerman and Morehead are former Northeast division champions.
2007 JEGS Allstar Champion Russell "Bubba" Linke downed Joe Santangelo in Stock Eliminator. The Old Bridge, N.J., racer ran 127.62 mph in his '97 Camaro.
Todd Fontana, Elmwood Park, N.J., drove to a 6.850 second victory at 205.22 mph past Ryan Ondrejko, Roslindale, Mass., in the division's Top Sportsman class and New Preston, Conn., resident Wayne Hofmann took the Top Dragster trophy and win against Glenn Flack, Sewell, N.J. In Super Street it was Frank Duplissis, Flanders, N.J., winning over Steve Baughman, York, Pa., and Tiina Duncanson, Acton, Ont., CAN, won in Pro Stock Sled defeating Kiersten Duncanson of Duran, Mich.
The Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes finished up last weekend before the rain came with Rich McPhillips and Frank Manzo outrunning their competition. McPhillips, Phoenixville, Pa., beat Mike Kosky, Cuddy Pa., running 5.575 seconds at 253.95 mph and Manzo, Morganville, N.J., ousted Todd Veney, Brownsburg, Ind., with a lap of 5.651, 254.18.
Northeast Division racers head to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Sept. 10-12.
