Roush Takes Pole

LAKEVILLE, May 28, 2010: Jack Roush Jr. earned his second consecutive GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge pole position of 2010 on Friday, at Lime Rock Park, and will lead a 31-car Grand Sport (GS) field to the green flag for Saturday's two-and-a-half hour Memorial Day Weekend Classic race.

Roush's time was 57.854 seconds (95.205 mph) in the No. 61 ROUSH Performance Products Ford Mustang GT he shares with Billy Johnson. Starting alongside Roush will be second-fast qualifier Joe Foster in the No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang Boss 302R he shares with Scott Maxwell.

While Fords earned a fourth consecutive pole and four of the top five starting positions, BMWs have won all four GS races at Lime Rock. With that in mind, Roush said it was important to start up front on the 1.53-mile, seven-turn track, where the leaders are expected to catch the tail of the field in a matter of minutes.

"Qualifying isn't the race that really matters, but this was a statement that the Mustangs can do very well here," Roush said. "Given the track's size and weight of the car, it's sometimes a difficult track for us. But our cars have been strong, and it showed again today."

Rounding out the top five: Bret Seafuse in the No. 37 Trumansburg ShurSave Ford Mustang Boss 302 (co-driver is James Gue); Matt Bell in the No. 6 Sunoco Camaro GS.R (co-driver is Jeff Bucknum) and Frank Montecalvo in the No. 16 Bayshore Recycling Ford Mustang Boss 302R.

In Street Tuner (ST), Don Salama clocked in at 59.471 seconds (92.616 mph) in the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW 328i he shares with team owner Will Turner. The team is making its 200th professional race with a BMW in the GS race.

"Will and I grew up at this track, so we know every inch of it," Salama said. "Here, it's so difficult to pass. I don't think we have the straight line speed, so pit and race strategy play a major part, and the best place to be for that is starting up front."

Second was Jordan Taylor - one of two drivers (Charles Espenlaub being the other) to compete in all three GRAND-AM races this weekend - in the No. 02 Maxwell Paper Products Company Mazda RX-8 (co-driver is Dan DiLeo). Rounding out the top five: Nic Jönsson in the No. 10 Infinity Audio/HD Radio Kia Forte Koup (co-driver is Andy Lally); Scott Schroeder in the No. 08 Maxwell Paper Products Company Porsche Boxster (co-driver is Ross Smith) and David White in the No. 80 Performance Friction/Rays Engineering BMW 328i.

The two-and-a-half hour ST race begins at 10:30 a.m. ET, with the two-and-a-half hour GS race starting at 3 p.m.
