The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum Becomes Heart Conscious Through A Donation By The DeKalb Heart Association

AUBURN - The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum's staff is now equipped and prepared to assist a victim in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, should the need arise. Thanks to a donation by the DeKalb Heart Association, the museum was able to purchase an automated electronic defibrillator (AED). The association donated $2,742.90 for the unit and was given in memory of Blanche Baker, a long-time DeKalb Heart Association director. "The generosity of the DeKalb Heart Association in providing the funding to purchase the AED unit for the museum is greatly appreciated," said Laura Brinkman, executive director of the museum. "We feel secure in knowing that we would have the tools to do everything in our power to help someone, should the need arise. We sincerely hope it never does," said Brinkman.

The museum strives to keep the safety of its visitors in mind through staff emergency training, "Realistically, museum staff members must be trained and prepared to handle emergency situations. The museum provides this training on a regular basis and we review it in staff meetings," said Brinkman. "All full-time and certain part-time staff members are required to keep CPR, first aid and AED credentials current for the safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff. It doesn't matter why guests are visiting the museum, either in general or attending a corporate event or party in the museum banquet and conference center, we want them to know that we take their personal safety very seriously," stated Brinkman.

All contributions to the DeKalb Heart Association are spent within the county. It is the Association's hope that enough money will be donated so that every museum in the county will have a defibrillator.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum - where the world's finest cars of yesterday live today! Over 120 classic, antique, vintage and special interest cars are displayed with other automotive related exhibits on three floors. The museum is located in the original 1930s national headquarters of the legendary Auburn Automobile Company and is a National Historic Landmark. Admission is charged, with group and family rates available. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. year round.
