Milwaukee Mile Race Fans Can "Drive The Mile” This Sunday

MILWAUKEE (May 1, 2008) – Auto racing fans who have watched the likes of Rusty Wallace, Alan Kulwicki, Al and Bobby Unser, A.J. Foyt and countless other driving heroes from the grandstands at The Milwaukee Mile will get their chance to “Drive The Mile” this Sunday, May 4 from 11:00am until 3:00pm.

Individuals can drive their personal vehicle on The Milwaukee Mile, with proceeds benefiting Hunger Task Force. Minivans, motorcycles, work trucks, classic cars, motorcycles, limousines, passenger cars and even a hearse been spotted taking laps in previous “Drive The Mile” events at America’s Legendary Oval.

Admission for taking "three laps of fame" is two non-perishable food items AND $15.

The Hunger Task force is asking for consideration of peanut butter and canned fruit donations. Also, cash can go twice as far in helping Milwaukee’s needy families, as the Hunger Task Force buys in bulk and can buy twice as much food with every dollar donated.

Several hundred cars in the car show will be taking laps in the early morning hours, then displaying their cars throughout the day in the paddock area. Hundreds of enthusiasts have pre-registered for the car show.

Teams representing the Mid-American Stock Car Series, Grand National Vintage Racing, Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series and Vintage Modified Stock Cars will also be on-hand.

Race tickets, merchandise food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Drivers must be 18 years of age or older, present a valid driver’s license AND proof of current vehicle insurance. There is no age limit for passengers, who ride free.

The Milwaukee Mile’s Gilbert Brown, a shareholder in the speedway and former Green Bay Packer who is an avid auto enthusiast, will be on hand to greet participants.
