DELAWARE, OH (March 18) -- Buoyed by its extremely successful season-opener in Gainesville, Fla., organizers of the JEGS ProMod Challenge are pleased to extend invitations to the second race of the 2008 schedule -- the 21st annual O'Reilly Spring NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil, which runs March 27-30 at Houston Raceway Park.

The field will be led by Gatornationals champion Joe Baker, the current series points leader. Baker was a last-minute alternate for the race that made the most of his opportunity by winning the event. The man he replaced, Mike Knowles, whose car was damaged in a testing accident prior to the event, will also compete in Houston, as will Chip King, who has competed in 49 of the 64 races in series history, the second most ever.

Reigning series champion Josh Hernandez will try to make use of his hometown advantage. Currently fifth in the JEGS points, Hernandez hails from the Houston suburb of Conroe.

Other invitees include former champions Jay Payne and Mike Ashley, along with Shelly Payne, Troy Coughlin, Tim Tindle, Rick Stivers, Scott Ray, Danny Rowe, Kirk Kuhns, Tony Pontieri, Raymond Commisso, Steve Engel, John Russo, Brad Personett, Harold Laird, Taylor Lastor, George Landis, Tom Gray, Eddie Ware, and Roger Johansson.

These 24 drivers must contact series administrators and confirm their participation via e-mail at JegsProMod@earthlink.net by the close of business on Thursday, March 20, or risk losing their spots. Drivers not listed above also are encouraged to contact the series and express their interest in racing at the event. Extra consideration will be extended to drivers with a history of supporting the series, drivers with successful on-track records, and drivers that can commit to the entire series.

Participants are asked to be parked at Houston Raceway Park by noon Wednesday. Pro Mod qualifying sessions are scheduled for 1:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, and 11 a.m., Saturday, March 29. The first round of eliminations is scheduled for 4 p.m., Saturday, with the remaining three rounds following the professional classes Sunday.
