TEAM REPORTS (DAYTONA, FLA.) - FORD RACING /EDWARDS NOTES - DAYTONA

Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 Scotts Ford Fusion was involved in an accident during Thursday morning's NASCAR Nationwide Series practice. There was right side damage to Edwards' Fusion, but the Scotts crew will be able to fix the vehicle before Saturday afternoon's Camping World 300 race at Daytona International Speedway.

CARL EDWARDS - No. 60 Scotts Ford Fusion - ON THE INCIDENT IN PRACTICE. "I was following Clint Bowyer and the car in front of him got loose and slid up and hit Kelly Bires in 47 car. He [Bires] was doing a real good job. I don't think he wrecked real bad. The 70 car [Mark Green] was just sideways up above me and went straight into the right side door. It couldn't have been any more square of a hit, it just moved my car over about a foot and I kept going straight. If he would have hit me in the front or the back, it would have wrecked us bad. So, the crew is going to put a new side on it and we should be fine. We were only out for about three laps before we wrecked, so it's hard to tell how the track is or will be. The car and the track felt good because it was cool and we had a lot of grip. It should be a good race this weekend. If we can finish in the top three like we did last year, things will be great."

Kelly Bires, driver of the No. 47 Clorox Ford Fusion was involved in a minor accident during Thursday morning's NASCAR Nationwide Series practice. Bires had a bend left front fender in which the crew was able to repair. Bires returned to the track and finished the session. He talks about the incident and practices this week.

KELLY BIRES - No. 47 Clorox Ford Fusion - ON PRACTICE "Yesterday we had an inner axle seal in the rear end that had a rip in it. We went out and ran about five or six laps and it felt like something wasn't right or something was on the right rear tire, so I brought it in and there was a bunch of oil on it [tire]. It took the whole hour of practice yesterday to get it fixed. We got back out on the track this morning and we baselined it to see what we had coming here and made some adjustments. Then we went back out and there was an incident out there. I don't know if he [No. 70, Mark Green] caught the apron or if he got loose or whatever, but he shot up and got into my front fender. Then we had to come in and fix that. Overall, I think we have a pretty good car. It's a pretty close balance to be where we need to race. We never did a qualifying run, so I don't know where we'll qualify, but we hope for the best. I'm not sure how many laps we ran today, but quite a few in the draft. We're working on getting it comfortable to run in the draft. But Saturday it's going to be really warm. It has a tendency when it's really warm; it gets slick in the corner and tight off the corner. I think it's good. We have a good race car, there a few minor details that we need to work on and try to get it fixed up."

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE INCIDENT WITH THE NO. 70? "Yes, I was on the outside of the 70 going into the corner. Either the 70 got pushed from behind or he ran into the apron or whatever, he shot up the track and so I shot up with him and he slammed into my front fender and then he spun out and I tried to avoid him and the other cars on track. We've got the car fixed up and we should be good."

LAST YEAR YOU TALKED ABOUT USING THE OFF SEASON TO IMPROVE THE QUALIFYING PACKAGE. WERE YOU ABLE TO DO THAT? HOW HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED THAT TO YOUR TIME ON TRACK TODAY? "The whole time down here and the three day test, we never really worked on any qualifying, or to make it fast on qualifying. Here anymore it's a handling race track, so that's what you need to do. If your 40th in qualifying and you're handling good, you'll be fine in the race. That's what if comes down to."

WHAT DOES RACING AT DAYTONA MEAN TO YOU? "I'm really happy to get the year going and really happy to have the whole and season knowing what I'm going doing to do. I'm hoping to have a really good year for Clorox because they deserve one and they've been great to me."

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THIS YEAR? "I want to run in the top 10 every week, that's what we want. We're hoping for a few top 10s, some top fives and a few wins this season."
