VOICES OF MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA: MIKA SALO

Risi Competizione's Mika Salo enters the Monterey Sports Car Championships seeking a GT2 championship with teammate Jaime Melo.

When Mika Salo makes his second American Le Mans Series start at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, there will be considerably more at stake than this time last year. The four-hour Monterey Sports Car Championships gives Salo and Jaime Melo the chance to wrap up their first GT2 driving title in the Series, a second straight team crown for Risi Competizione and Ferrari's first manufacturer championship.

Similar to street circuits: "It's not that big of a difference. There are some tricky parts and some similar corners. It's more difficult maybe to memorize than most of them because of the elevation changes, and also the low grip is an issue there. But all the street courses are pretty much the same also. It's difficult to learn and you have to cope with the slippery track."

Welcome back: "It was my first time last year. It was a beautiful track. It's a nice place, the whole area there. I really enjoyed it and we're just going to try to repeat the same thing this year and see how fast we can go there."

The final round of the 2007 American Le Mans Series is the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The four-hour race is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, October 20. SPEED will air the race live from 5:30 to 10 p.m. ET. Live coverage from American Le Mans Radio and IMSA Live Timing and Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com
