SPECIAL EVENT - NASCAR (CHARLOTTE) - Second Annual NASCAR Foundation Blood And Marrow Drive Has Potential To Save 11,000 Lives...

With Record-Breaking Year,

The results are in, and NASCAR fans rolled up their sleeves in record numbers. The Second Annual NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive has had a record-breaking year, collecting 3,410 pints of blood and adding over 1,000 volunteers to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry. The donations from this year’s drive have the potential to save over 11,000 lives.

Out of the 23 tracks that have already held their drives, the top three participating tracks are Michigan International Speedway (MIS), Pocono Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway. MIS collected 962 pints of blood and added 80 volunteers to the registry; Pocono Raceway collected 541 pints of blood and added 109 volunteers to the registry; and Talladega Superspeedway collected 229 pints of blood and added 125 volunteers to the registry.

Last year, the inaugural drive collected over 2,500 pints of blood and added 650 volunteers to the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry at 14 participating tracks.

The NASCAR Foundation, Jimmie Johnson Foundation and Hendrick Marrow Program partner on the Annual Blood and Marrow Drive, which seeks to provide unique experiences at many different tracks that bring out the goodwill and community pride in all race fans. The drive helps serve a desperate need for blood and marrow donations – more than 38,000 blood donations are needed per day and over 6,000 people are searching for a marrow match on any given day.
