Toyota Lightens Up the Darkside of Castlewood Canyon State Park for National Public Lands Day

September 21st, 2007 - 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

DENVER, Sept. 13 -- Toyota's Denver Regional Office has selected Castlewood Canyon State Park as its National Public Lands Day (NPLD) project for 2007. For the ninth consecutive year, Toyota is the national NPLD sponsor, and Castlewood Canyon State Park was selected again this year as the Colorado site.

"The 'Darkside of Castlewood Canyon' is a heavily forested area that offers cool, restful retreats from hectic everyday life," said Ron Claussen, Castlewood Canyon State Park seasonal naturalist. "This area preserves a portion of the Black Forest. If you have ever been on a trail in this part of the Park at sundown, you know why it is called the Darkside."

"Heavy snows, spring runoff and heavy thunderstorms in 2007 have taken their toll on the trails of Castlewood Canyon. A lot of trail work is needed to provide a safe environment for the many hikers that visit the Park. Toyota has agreed to help in this effort during their NPLD commitment to 'Lend A Hand For America's Lands.'"

"Toyota's committed associates not only provide hard work, but bring a refreshing exuberance to all their projects. Not only is there an air of providing for the common good but a spirit of fun and excitement. Toyota certainly could have selected a site with easier and more accessible projects, but they chose to help preserve and make accessible an out of the way 'jewel of the prairie.'"
