Broadwing Corporation Teams with Race Car Driver P.J. Abbott to Raise Money for Red Cross Hurricane Relief Efforts; #90 ''TeleCOMpassion'' Car to Race at Texas Thunder 200 in Kyle Tomorrow; Broadwing Volunteers to Collect Donations at the Event

AUSTIN, Texas--Sept. 30, 2005--Broadwing Corporation today announced that it is teaming up with Infiniti Pro Series driver P.J. Abbott to raise money for the Central Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross at Saturday's Texas Thunder 200. The event is a NASCAR sanctioned Grand National Division Race and although Abbott races in a different circuit, NASCAR invited him to participate in this event -- an opportunity he enthusiastically accepted. Broadwing is sponsoring the #90 "TeleCOMpassion" car.

"The opportunity to team up with Broadwing and the Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts seemed like a win for everybody involved," Abbott said. "We hope that this will be a visible reminder for people to give what they can to support Red Cross hurricane relief efforts."

Broadwing volunteers will be collecting monetary donations at the Radio Disney Racing Roadshow pavilion on site all day Saturday. In addition, Abbott has pledged to donate his portion of any winnings from this race to the Red Cross.

"We are based in Austin and have a significant presence in Louisiana so these hurricanes have been very personal for us," said Broadwing Communications Chief Operating Officer John McLeod. "Once we had verified that our employees were safe and that our network remained up and running during and after the hurricanes, our next concern was figuring out what else we could do to help those impacted by the storms. This is a challenge our people have wholeheartedly embraced."

Broadwing operational teams were first responders for phone, high-speed Internet and other services for Dallas Reunion Arena and the Austin Convention Center, facilities that collectively housed thousands of evacuees. Broadwing continues to provide free phone service for evacuees and technical services for the Red Cross, FEMA and other government agencies supporting the relief efforts.

Broadwing also donated the fiber transmission for the live musical event "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy," New York City's Concerts for the Gulf Coast. Broadwing's media network served as the primary broadcast source for its customer RealNetworks(R), who broadcast the Madison Square Garden concert as a Pay Per View event. 100% of the proceeds of the event supported the long-term relief and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to employees' personal donations of time, money, shelter, clothing and household items to hurricane victims, the Company has also created the Broadwing Communications Charitable Foundation to support local relief organizations and provide a vehicle for Broadwing employees to pool their contributions to provide relief to employees and communities affected by the hurricane disasters. To date, employee contributions have already risen to over $25,000, which Broadwing will match.
