HALL GIVES WOOD BROTHERS CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FOCUS WIN; NASCAR BUSCH VETERAN
HMIEL 10TH
INDIANAPOLIS – Wood Brothers Racing, one of NASCAR’s all-time winningest
teams, celebrated its first ever USAC victory Saturday at South Boston (Va.)
Speedway with Terry Hall taking his first career Carolina/Virginia Ford
Focus triumph.
Hall, of nearby Stuart, Va., drove the No. 8 Heintz Bros. Automotive
Beast/Ford Focus to a wire-to-wire 25-lap victory. Hall beat Robbie Ray,
Aron Oakley, points leader Chase Scott and Brit Andersen to the stripe on
the 4/10-mile paved oval. Hall is the husband of Kim Wood Hall, one of the
owners of Ricky Rudd’s No. 21 Ford, which competes regularly in the NASCAR
Nextel Cup Series.
Shane Hmiel of Pleasant Garden, N.C., who has made several appearances in
NASCAR’s Busch Series, made his USAC Ford Focus debut and finished 10th.
Hmiel is the son of Steve Hmiel, Technical Director at Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
In addition to Hall’s victory, the Wood Brothers have been successful in
USAC before, having assembled the pit crew for Jim Clark’s winning effort in
the 1965 Indianapolis 500.
Ray, who in addition to his second-place finish snatched the fastest time in
qualifications, climbed to within 46 points of Scott heading into the Sept.
10 race at Shenandoah, Va. It will be the first time the series travels to
Shenandoah.
