ELIMINATIONS UNDERWAY AT WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS

	MORRISON, Colo. - Day two, along with round one of eliminations,
is in the books at Bandimere Speedway for the NHRA O'Reilly Auto Part
Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals. More that 500 kids
from 16 states raced all year at their local track, earning points for a
chance to compete this weekend and take home the Championship.
	Racers had a final time trail this morning followed by round 1
this afternoon with three of last year's champions advancing past first
round and looking to repeat this year. Nine-year old AJ Fernandez of
Harbor City, Calif., took out Wyatt Thorpe of Brighton, Colo., with a
pass of 13.431 seconds at 45.73 mph while Cameron Fulfer, running in the
12 year old category, beat Alyssa Jones of Litchfield, Ariz. with a
9.376 second pass at 66.82 mph. Katrina Billings of Kansas City, was the
final defending champion to advance with a win over Katie Claburn.
Billings covered the track in 8.108 seconds at 78.52 mph to Claburn's
8.520 at 76.23 mph.
	Several special awards were given out today with Austin Gardner
taking the Best Engineered award with his Daka Racing/Cougar
Fabrications entry. Brianna Bergh and her Bad Medicine Racing dragster
picked up the Best Appearing Car award and the team of Emily & Elizabeth
Guthrie grabbed the Best Appearing Team award. Additional awards will be
presented later tonight for Best Reaction Time and Closest to Dial-In in
each of the eight categories.
	Action picks up Saturday morning with round 2 scheduled for
