SME Gives Advanced Energy Technology Developers and Researchers an Opportunity to Connect With Manufacturers

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 13, 2004 -- The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is providing an opportunity for developers and researchers of advanced energy technologies to interface and connect with OEMs considering alternative energy systems in their future product designs. The "Advanced Energy & Fuel Cell Technologies: Manufacturing Opportunities & Challenges Conference & Exposition," is being held October 11-13, 2004 at Laurel Manor, 39000 Schoolcraft Road, Livonia, Mich. The event is sponsored by CERA, (Cambridge Energy Research Associates) (http://www.cera.com/ ), DTE Energy Technologies (http://www.dtetech.com/ ), NextEnergy (http://www.nextenergy.org/ ), and WWJ 950 News Radio (http://www.wwj.com/ ).

The three-day conference, featuring more than 50 presentations and four keynote speakers, offers AET developers and researchers an opportunity to interface and connect with OEMs in several different industry markets where alternative energy systems have both short- and long-term applications. Leaders from Panasonic, GM, NASA, U.S. Army and NAC (National Automotive Center for Manufacturing Sciences), will reveal their future energy needs and what systems technologies they are both employing and exploring. This unique and important event will also help developers and researchers in reducing the cost, the scalability of components, and the reliability of AET systems so they are more commercially viable.

AET developers and researchers will hear updates on research developments in several industries, at universities and national laboratories, learn more about cross-industry applications and how they transcend into other industries (portable, stationary, transportation, military and aerospace), and enabling technologies and manufacturing processes for AETs. The program will also address the challenges of manufacturing AETs, such as fuel cells, cost-effectively in low-production volumes, issues related to the design for manufacturability, and developing a supply network capable of producing materials and components for advanced energy systems.
